Campos emerges as favourite for Man Utd technical director post

Manchester United remain determined to appoint a first technical director.

Luis Campos was confirmed to have left Lille on Friday as part of a takeover at the Ligue 1 path.

That could pave the way for Campos to join United - and he is on a five-man shortlist that includes Monaco sporting director Paul Mitchell and Ajax's Marc Overmars.

Campos is thought to have been strongly suggested for the role by Jose Mourinho when he was United boss, with rumours circling that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward felt the move would have given the Portuguese too much power.

Woodward may have been swayed by Campos's exceptional track record, which includes helping to discover the likes of Bernardo Silva, Kylian Mbappe and Anthony Martial during his time at former club Monaco.

Former Real Madrid scout Campos also recorded a £63million on Nicolas Pepe and snapped Fabinho and Thomas Lemar up on free transfers.
