Cameroon king Mboma defends Inter ace Eto'o over bank-busting Anzhi move

Former Parma and Sunderland centre-forward Patrick Mboma has defended Samuel Eto'o's move to Anzhi.

The Cameroon public have been critical of the Inter Milan striker for choosing Anzhi instead of staying in Italy or going to Manchester City.

But Mboma says: "It's a choice that belongs to him and that must be respected. Why should he please people by agreeing to stay at Inter or sign for Manchester City? Wherever he went, Eto'o has done his duty.

"Thirty years old, and the ability to earn good money, sixty million in three years. Although it will not be with the Champions League team he said he wanted to do."

Asked if he would have done the same, however, Mboma added: "If it were me in his place, probably not, if I was an Inter player and I had the chance to go to City, I would not have chosen to play in Russia, unless they were like CSKA Moscow and playing in the Champions League regularly."
