Calvert-Lewin bags hat-trick but West Ham win could prove costly for Everton

Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored his second hat-trick of the season as Everton booked their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a win over West Ham United.

The Englishman opened the scoring after 11 minutes, only for Robert Snodgrass to equalise early in the second-half.

Richarlison restored Everton's lead but the Brazilian was unable to continue in the game after having treatment on his left leg. Shortly after, Allan followed his compatriot into tunnel with an injury.

Despite their problems, the Toffees romped to victory thanks to their in-form striker Calvert-Lewin.

The England frontman bagged two goals in six minutes near the end, taking his season tally to eight goals.

Speaking after the game, the 23-year-old said he is loving playing in a side filled with creative talent.

"I'm enjoying my football, which is the main thing," said the forward. "You look at the chances being created and they are there for me so it's my job to put them in the back of the net and I'm obviously enjoying being able to do that at the moment.

"We've got players who are capable of scoring from different areas of the pitch which is very important. When you've got that, it's a helping hand from everyone on the pitch. A lot of my goals have been one-touch finishes so it's about getting in the right areas and being the man to put them in the back of the net.

"I enjoyed all the goals as I had to think about what I was doing. It's nice that what I've been working on – being more instinctive in the box and opposite movements – is coming off on the pitch."

On the injuries suffered, manager Carlo Ancelotti added: "Richarlison has a twisted ankle, not so bad. Allan and Jonjoe Kenny [came off with] abductor muscle [problems], we have to check on how they are tomorrow. Richarlison can recover for Saturday, Allan and Kenny will be more difficult."
