Caldwell delighted to be named Wigan captain

Wigan Athletic defender Gary Caldwell has been named club captain.

The Scotland international defender joined from Celtic in January and boss Roberto Martinez feels he is an ideal leader.

Caldwell, who skippered Celtic and Hibs, said: "It's a massive honour for me to have been named club captain and it's a role I'll take great pride in.

"After my arrival in January, it didn't take me long to realise how special a club this is and how much it means to the fans.

"As usual the rest of the team and I will be giving 100% every day to help push the club forward."
