Calderon leaves Colorado Rapids for Quito return

Diego Calderon's loan with Colorado Rapids has expired paving the way for his return to Ecuador.

The 27-year old defender joined the Rapids on a season-long loan from homeland club LDU Quito prior to the 2013 MLS season but sustained a serious knee injury early on and managed just five appearances for the Denver outfit.

Rapids technical director Paul Bravo confirmed on the club's official website that Calderon would not be returning to Dick's Sporting Goods Park in 2014.

"Diego's loan expired following the end of our season, and while we held an option to bring him back, our conversations with him indicated that it was in the best interest of both the player and the club to let him return to Quito," said Bravo.
