Cahill played through pain barrier for Everton says medical chief

Everton star Tim Cahill courageously played through the pain barrier in an attempt to help his beloved club on the weekend.

The Australian international injured his leg in the 2-0 loss at Manchester City last weekend and although he was passed fit to take on Liverpool in the Merseyside derby on Saturday, played with pain as the Toffees again lost 2-0.

Everton Head of Medicine Danny Donachie told the club's official website that Cahill battled on the weekend but said the injury is too much for him to travel back to Australia for a double header against Malaysia and Oman at the back end of this week and early next week.

"Tim played through the pain barrier on Saturday against Liverpool but the scan showed that the best course of action now is rest and rehab," Donachie said.

"Tim is disappointed but it is a straight-forward decision because he would not be fit enough to play in the games in Australia."
