Cagliari president Giulini: Di Francesco's contract has been renewed

Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini has declared Eusebio Di Francesco has signed a new contract.

Giulini made the announcement after defeat to Genoa - their six consecutive loss.

“It's certainly making me angry, because 14 points in the first half of the season is unacceptable," Giulini told Sky Italia.

“We are slowly trying to find a new system with Alfred Duncan and Radja Nainggolan, but there is so much psychological pressure on the team that it becomes difficult when they play with that tension.

“Many players are unaccustomed to this type of a season, so it's new for them too, but we have an entire half a season and the quality required to emerge from this situation."

Rather than sack Di Francesco, Giulini made a surprise announcement.

“We renewed Di Francesco's contract this week to prove how much we believe in him. We kept it quiet and hoped to announce it with some points today, but the contract renewal still brings more solidity to the coach.

“The team is in his grasp, they shouldn't let their heads drop, they need to keep going and have belief in themselves."
