Cagliari have apologised to Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi after claims of racist chants from their fans.

Matuidi wrote a Facebook post after Juve's 1-0 win against Cagliari to explain the racist abuse he received at the Sardegna Arena, and the Rossoblu issued a response to the Frenchman on Twitter.

“You're a great player, an example to young players," the message read.

“We want to apologise to you if you were insulted at the Sardegna Arena because of the colour of your skin.

“Racism has nothing to do with the Sardinian people. Only ignorance can explain certain behaviour. Respect."
