Borussia Dortmund chief exec Hans-Joachim Watzke says Manchester United would've signed Erling Haaland if they'd agreed to include a buyout clause in his contract.
Haaland held talks with both clubs when leaving RB Salzburg before eventually choosing the Germans.
Watzke believes they would not have signed Haaland if they had not agreed to this summer's €75m buyout clause.
"The truth is that we gave him a buyout clause. Had we not given him that, he would have gone to Manchester United," he told Ruhr Nachrichten.
Manchester City are now set to sign the Norway striker.
Watzke added, "He has a decision to make, it will come eventually. But I'm sure we'll find the new Haaland. We need the new Haaland."
