Burnley striker Peter Crouch announces retirement

Burnley striker Peter Crouch has announced his retirement.

The former Liverpool and Tottenham striker, 38, spent last season with Burnley.

He also won 42 caps for England in a career that also included spells at Southampton , Portsmouth and Stoke.

"I have had 23 years to prepare for this moment but, now it is here, you realise nothing can prepare you at all. The time has come refer to myself as a 'former footballer'; this incredible journey I have been on since I was 16 is over," he writes in the Mail.

Crouch is expected to embark on a media career following on from the success of his BBC podcast.
