Burnley striker Barnes: I'm a dumper truck compared to Van Dijk

Burnley striker Ashley Barnes hopes to test Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk today.

But the Clarets hero has no delusions about where his strengths lie.

Barnes, 29, told The Sun: “Van Dijk is an absolute Rolls-Royce of a defender and his performances have been off the scale at times this season.

“He has the knack of making everything look so easy, too easy at times. He seems to glide effortlessly all over the park.

“He is quick, powerful, outstanding in the air and he can defend.

“At times he actually looks bored because the game comes so easily to him — even at this level. In my opinion, there isn't a better defender anywhere on the planet right now."

He added: “Me? I'm a dumper truck" is his typical, no-frills response.

“Hard-working, solid, durable, not scared to get my hands dirty and capable of getting the job done. This game is right up my street and I can't wait to get to Anfield."
