Burnley striker Andre Gray: Warburton and Weir transformed my career

Burnley striker Andre Gray says he owes his Premier League career chance to Rangers boss Mark Warburton.

Warburton worked with Gray as Brentford manager.

The striker recalled to the Daily Mail: "Mark Warburton and Davie (Weir) worked with me every day when I joined Brentford. Day in, day out. The step up from Luton was massive in terms of quality, fitness, everything. They showed so much belief in me and, even when I went nine games without scoring, they kept playing me.

"A lot of teams probably wouldn't have done that. I probably thought myself that I shouldn't be playing. But they backed me and that's why I am where I am now. I can't speak highly enough about their man-management.

"The way they work with everybody, not just the young boys, is fantastic. The relationship they have with senior players is fantastic, too.

"They want to develop players and I think you can see that with the amount of players they've done that successfully with. Yes, there's a debt of gratitude, I owe him everything. Him (Warburton), Frank and Davie took me to Brentford and gave me my chance. That's why I am where I am now."
