Burnley midfielder Westwood: Arsenal players said 'we've done this at Leeds'

Burnley midfielder Ashley Westwood revealed Arsenal players said 'we've done this at Leeds' after Granit Xhaka was sent off at the Emirates on Sunday.

The Gunners went down 1-0 after Xhaka was given his marching orders for grabbing Westwood's throat.

And Westwood says the Arsenal players were trying to motivate themselves by bringing up the goalless draw with Leeds, which came after Nicolas Pepe was sent-off during the second-half.

"It sometimes can work in their favour, it can give them a boost and something to work for," Westwood told Sky Sports after the final whistle.

"I heard them shout 'we've done this at Leeds'. We knew we had to keep switching the ball and eventually, we got there with a set-piece.

"He fouled Dwight (McNeil) in the middle of the pitch and then he gripped Dwight up and you can't do that and then he put his hands on me which you can't do in today's game.

"Playing against 10 men gives you that advantage and we knew we'd be dangerous from set-pieces. Thankfully, we got on the end of one.

"We've been here many times when people say we're in trouble. We have a great group in there, the manager believes in what we do and we don't listen to outside noise.

"We just get on with it and we know the character of the group in there which can get us out of trouble."
