Heaton was tipped to go to the World Cup last summer until a serious shoulder injury kept him out for nearly the whole season. He began the current campaign with a calf strain but displaced Joe Hart when fit and his return has coincided with Burnley improving their results.
"It was a concern at the time when they signed a new 'keeper (Hart). I just tried to think about myself and when the opportunity would come, whether at Burnley or elsewhere. I wanted to be better than I was before and tried to work every day to get through it that way.
"As much as the emotion involved can make it frustrating, if you put the work in, you can always rely on that."
