Burnley defender Matt Lowton happy with new deal despite Chelsea defeat

Burnley defender Matt Lowton was staying upbeat after defeat to Chelsea.

Lowton signed a new deal to 2023 prior to Sunday's game.

"They were good. With a new manager we knew they were going to be right on it with a point to prove and they're top players," said the right-back to the club's website.

“I thought in the first half we had a couple of good spells and got up the pitch well but just didn't quite create the chances to get a goal and get ahead.

“I think they stepped on again in the second half and showed what top players they are, not just with the ball but off it as well.

“When it's backs-to-the-wall against a team like this, it's inevitable they're going to create chances."

On his deal, Lowton added: "I've loved every minute of being here and to sign on for another two years I'm over the moon.

“You have to work hard to get a new contract in whatever walk of life, so when the gaffer approached me and said the club was willing to do something I was delighted.

“I was really happy when they said they wanted to keep me and hopefully I can keep helping the club.

“It's been a large chunk of my career already, so to extend it even further is fantastic for me.

“I love everything about the place. The way we work is very typical of my up-bringing from a hard-working background and taking nothing for granted.

“It's exactly the same here. It really suits me down to the ground and I'm delighted to be able to stay even longer."
