Derby County boss Wayne Rooney is emerging at the top of the list of candidates to take over at Burnley.
The Sun states that the Manchester United and England legend is quickly becoming the chief candidate to coach the Clarets from next season.
Interim boss Mike Jackson is attempting to ensure Burnley stay in the Premier League, as they battle to survive with a handful of games remaining this season.
The source states that even if they were to get relegated, Rooney would find the Burnley job appealing.
He has previously stated his loyalty towards Derby, but would only remain in charge next season if the club goes through a successful takeover.
Rooney has also stated his desire to one day manage Manchester United.
