Burnley cash can rescue Cork City

Burnley can help save Irish club Cork City with their transfer payment for Kevin Long.

The Lancashire Telegraph says Long was Owen Coyle's final signing as Clarets boss when a fee of around £140,000 was agreed for the Republic of Ireland under 21 defender at the end of 2009.

That transfer fee was lodged with the FA but Cork's cash woes led to their bank account being frozen, meaning they could not access the money.

But Cork have now been allowed to reopen their account and the money from Burnley could prove vital in their bid for survival.
