Burnley manager Sean Dyche says Dwight McNeil deserves his contract extension.

The 19-year-old has excelled in the absence of Aaron Lennon and Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

McNeil has been rewarded with a new deal that keeps him at Turf Moor until 2023.

When asked if it was important to tie down McNeil, Dyche said: "I think sometimes the word important can swiftly become earned.

"I think he has earned it, he has done very well.

"He has been in and around us from about this time last season, travelled with us a number of times.

"He came into pre-season and was around everything we have done and in the early season."
