Burnley boss Dyche happy as Bardsley pens new contract

Phil Bardsley has signed new terms with Burnley.

Bardsley has agreed a new contract to keep him at Turf Moor until the summer of 2022.

The vastly experienced full-back becomes the latest senior member of Sean Dyche's squad to agree new terms.

Bardsley follows defensive colleagues Matt Lowton, Erik Pieters and Kevin Long in extending their stays after the trio – along with winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson – signed up at the end of January.

“Bardo is a top professional. He is lean, fit and hungry," said Burnley manager Sean Dyche.

“But he is old enough and wise enough to have that respect to look at Lowts and go 'he is delivering.'

“I think when players in front of you are delivering you have to bide your time and I think we have a healthy respect here for that kind of thinking.

“Players obviously knock on my door and want to play but sometimes they see it with their own eyes that the player in their position is playing well and therefore I am going to have to wait for my chance and be ready when it comes."
