Former Tottenham and Burnley goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes managers like Sean Dyche and Steve Bruce are wrongly overlooked for top jobs.

Burnley boss Dyche has recently been linked with Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, while Bruce will reportedly be sacked by Newcastle if their protracted takeover is completed.

Asked if Bruce could compete with the league's leading managers, Robinson told Football Insider,: "I do not see why he should not have the opportunity.

"Managers get pigeon-holed sometimes – the likes of Steve Bruce, Sam Allardyce and Sean Dyche.

"I would love to see these managers given an opportunity and a budget with the players that other so-called 'top managers' get.

"Dyche has done an outstanding job at Burnley. He never gets mentioned for top jobs because he is not fashionable – but why not?

"They know how to get results and I would love to see them given the opportunity to adapt and experiment with their managerial style."
