Burnley boss Coyle sees Mears in England shirt

Burnley manager Owen Coyle believes in-form defender Tyrone Mears should be considered for an England berth.

Following the omission of Liverpool's Glen Johnson because of injury, England boss Fabio Capello called on Aston Villa's Luke Young as his replacement but Coyle believes he selected the wrong man.

"Tyrone has been outstanding for us and would not let anyone down. He has played against and handled the best around this season," said Coyle.

"I have told him to keep up that sort of consistency with us, that is the priority. But he would do himself justice in an England shirt too.

"I think Fabio Capello has seen him this season. I don't want to tell him his job, but there are not many better around than Tyrone at the moment."

Mears qualifies for the England team despite making an international appearance for Jamaica earlier this year.
