Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce believes critics of his team should "eat humble pie."

The Magpies not only avoided the drop, but finished 17 points clear of the relegation zone after the final day of the season.

Newcastle won their final game 2-0 against Fulham to finish in 12th spot in the league.

Bruce said post-game, per Chronicle Live: "We'll never say it's an achievement to finish 12th for a club of our stature but it's an achievement.

"I hope the people who have written us off, they'll eat humble pie and give us some credit."
