Bruce: Newcastle will have contingency plan if takeover fails

Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce says there is a contingency plan at the club if their takeover is not complete.

The proposed buyout of the club by a Saudi-backed consortium has hit several snags in the past few weeks.

The Chronicle says the fit and proper test is still happening at the Premier League, with no indication if the bid will be approved.

Bruce told reporters about the matter: "We will all see what the change is.

"If it doesn't (go through) then we just have to try to be prepared the best we possibly can be and get ready on next season."

"I think it will be like that for most clubs. We have all been put on hold if you like after what happens.

"We are now getting to grasp the situation and what it is.

"We still don't know if fans will be back for the start of next season but I think everybody will be cutting their cloth as they say. We're not alone in this.

"However, we have a big important summer and we want to try to move on.

"We want to try to identify who we'd like to bring into the club to keep on improving. We will always try to do that."
