John Brown recalls Manchester United star Darren Fletcher as a junior.
Brown was under-18 Gers coach when the Scotland skipper and Michael Stewart were coming through the youth ranks.
Brown recalled: "We had a lot of exciting young players coming through. There was one who got away though.
"Darren played a handful of games for us when he was a 15-year-old schoolkid. We tried everything we could to get him to sign but his mind was made up, he wanted to go to Man United.
"Guys like Fletcher and Michael Stewart opted to go down south, there was nothing we could do about it. I remember Darren turning out for us. He was three years younger than the group but was terrific."
