Brother of Anderlecht manager Kompany: Only thing missing was Champions League title with Man City

The brother of Anderlecht manager Vincent Kompany says it was the right time for his retirement.

Kompany stepped down as a player last week to focus his attention fully on managerial duties.

Francois Kompany said, "No one can deny that Vincent has made a fantastic career.

"The Champions League, hey. That may be the only thing missing. Man City had the team to win in recent years, but that little bit of luck was missing in the important phases of the tournament.

"In addition, a really tangible prize with the national team would have been nice. But of course pride predominates."

Francois added: "His philosophy is the philosophy of Anderlecht. He wants an aggressive football team.

"Anderlecht must stand for neat and dominant football. They should not be happy with 'just' winning. His dream? Make Anderlecht champion in a way that the club deserves. That may take time, but it is there too. This is a long-term project."
