David Brooks was delighted to feature for Bournemouth in defeat to Manchester United.
Brooks made his first start in 598 days after recovering from Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
He said: "I am immensely proud of the boys to get us safe this season.
"It was nice to start, I got cramp with the pure excitement of it all! I thoroughly enjoyed it, playing the top four is always difficult. I grew into it and it's a stepping stone for me.
"People hear my story but they don't know how difficult it was for me to even train with the boys. To get back after such a break is really difficult. I have been training for months and months on my own but there's nothing like being on the pitch."
