Britton proud to step into Swansea captaincy

Leon Britton expressed his pride at leading Swansea City out as captain during the Capital One Cup clash against York City.

Manager Garry Monk rested a host of his first team regulars for the second round fixture and captain Ashley Williams was one of the notable absentees for the Swans.

In the absence of Williams, veteran midfielder Britton was handed the captaincy for the 3-0 win and has since admitted his pride at leading out his beloved club.

Britton told Swansea's official website: "It was great. It was obviously brilliant to be out there starting the game - as captain too, which meant it was a great night for myself.

"It's my first 90 minutes since January, so I did feel it a bit towards the end, but it was great to be back out there and to be captain rounds it off."
