Brighton have failed with an opening bid for Benfica star Darwin Nunez.

O Jogo says the Seagulls offered €30m for Nunez, but the proposal was rejected by the Reds.

Benfica expect Brighton to return with an improved proposal.

Brighton are flush with cash after selling Ben White to Arsenal yesterday for a fee rising to €60m.

Benfica signed Nunez a year ago from Almeria for €25m.
