Brighton striker Welbeck happy to score in victory over Newcastle

Brighton striker Danny Welbeck was delighted after their 3-0 defeat of Newcastle.

Goals either side of half-time from Leandro Trossard and Welbeck put Albion in control and top scorer Neal Maupay added a third midway through the second half.

Welbeck said afterwards, “It's been a really good week for us. Obviously getting two wins was important for us. That's the standard that we've set and we want to build on that.

“I'm pleased with the goal, but the most important thing was to get the three points.

“We've got a great group of players. I don't think our position in the table is where we should be, but that's the harsh reality of the Premier League. We relished the challenge tonight. There's plenty more challenges ahead.

“It's a great performance tonight and that's what we're most pleased about. The morale's very high in the dressing room now. We've got the international break now and we'll get back to it after that."
