Brighton have had an offer for Adam Webster accepted by Bristol City.
The Argus says the figure the Seagulls will pay for the 24-year-old from West Sussex is likely to go down as "undisclosed" but is believed to come in short of the £22 million being reported.
Webster has played in a three-man defence - on the left or in the centre - and a back four.
He has also operated in a defensive midfield role and is an assured distributor of the ball who likes to stride forward.
Webster will arrive just as Matt Clarke leaves on-loan for Derby County.
