Brighton keeper Ryan earns international rest

Brighton goalkeeper Mathew Ryan has been given a rest by his country.

The Australian has not been selected for a friendly against the Korea Republic on June 7 in Busan.

He will be among many senior players who will be rested, as a fringe squad will get the nod instead.

Ryan has played 84 games for club and country since he signed for Brighton from Valencia two seasons ago.

Australia coach Graham Arnold spoke about the selection for the upcoming friendly and said to reporters:

"The last couple of years has been tough on many of our senior players with little rest in between seasons.

"I know what those guys are capable of and I believe it is important they start their new campaigns with fresh bodies and minds.

"They will all be considered again for our first round of qualifiers in September."
