Brighton defender Dunk: Cardiff defeat still hurts

Brighton defender Lewis Dunk admits defeat to Cardiff City last week is haunting him.

The Welsh side looked doomed but the 2-0 win at Brighton in midweek – The Seagulls' fourth league defeat on the spin – has suddenly thrown them a lifeline.

Dunk, after the stalemate with Wolves, said: “Of course it hurts. If it doesn't hurt you then you're in the wrong sport and you wouldn't be playing football if it didn't hurt you.

“Sometimes you lose and you don't deserve to lose and sometimes you lose and the teams are too good for you but when we lost the way we did [against Cardiff] it's not acceptable and we've had to deal with it.

“But we've got to move on now and forget about that. Now we're coming off the back of a good point away from home and we've got to build on it and make sure we take this into the next game against Tottenham."

Dunk adds: “I couldn't even give you an answer why it dropped off. It wasn't like a sudden drop. It slowly seemed to be creeping away from us and we had to realise that we were on a downhill slope. We've had to get back off that and climb back up that mountain."
