Brighton boss Graham Potter was happy to reach the FA Cup fourth round after a shootout victory at Newport.

Solly March had fired Albion ahead, before the hosts grabbed a last-gasp equaliser to take the game to extra time.

Penalties ended up settling the affair against Michael Flynn's men, with Jason Steele making four saves as Albion won 4-3 on spot-kicks.

The head coach said, “Credit has to go to the players. We made it difficult for ourselves and to concede in the last second was a blow.

“It meant we had to recover, so in the end it's just nice to go through.

“The players were disappointed after 90 minutes, but I thought we approached extra time well.

“Newport made it tough for us though, so we have to give huge credit to them too."

Potter was also delighted with the way that Steele redeemed himself in the shoot-out after an error which led to the home side's equaliser.

“I am pleased for Jason because he has been fantastic for us.

“He has supported the players when he's not been in the team and he will be disappointed with the goal but overall, I thought he did really well.

“It was always going to be a difficult match against tough opposition, but it's nice to get a win in the first of our three matches this week."
