Brighton surprised Crystal Palace 2-1 on Saturday.
Luka Milivojevic's penalty had briefly brought Palace level, but, as they struggled to create chances, fine finishes from Glenn Murray, only recalled when Florin Andone was injured in the pre-match warm-up, and Anthony Knockaert justified Brighton's three points.
Brighton boss Chris Hughton said: “I know the nature of the game — a derby game for the supporters — but for whatever that means, the three points mean even more.
“With where we are at this moment and the group of teams around us, where everyone is capable of winning games, it was really important to build on last week.
“We had to go through a period where we couldn't concede again. We weathered that storm, and if we had a bit more control at times, we would have had more opportunities.
“In the 90 minutes, there weren't clear chances for either team. It was going to be about which team could pull something out of the bag — that little bit of quality or a penalty in their case.
“Fortunately for us, we had two really good moments of quality and that allowed us to win the game."
