Brighton boss Hughton praises squad depth for FA Cup win

Brighton boss Chris Hughton praised his squad players after their FA Cup win over Derby.

Goals from Anthony Knockaert and Jurgen Locadia booked Albion's place in the last eight of the competition, and Hughton was delighted with his team's disciplined performance against the Rams, who pulled a goal back through Ashley Cole.

Hughton made eight changes to the side that started against Burnley last time out, and the Albion boss spoke about the competition within the squad, as the Seagulls dealt with a handful of injuries to progress.

“What we knew before today was that the squad is stronger than last season and we've got really good competition.

“Unfortunately we've had a bad week, where we've had a few minor injuries, which made us that little bit weaker as a squad going into today's game.

“But when that's the case, players need to dig deep. Particularly for the lads that haven't played as many minutes as others, it's a really good opportunity for them.

“When there's somebody playing that hasn't played so much, it's not a question of resting others, it's because they've deserved their opportunity, and that's the type of competition you want."
