Brighton manager Chris Hughton has expressed his delight following the signing of Cameroonian international Gaetan Bong on a free transfer.

Bong spent the back end of last season with Wigan Athletic after previous stints in the French and Greek first divisions with the likes of Metz, Valenciennes and Olympiakos.

Hughton told the club's official website that the addition of the 27-year-old left-back was fantastic news for the club.

"Gaetan is a player that we were aware of while he was at Olympiakos in Greece," Hughton said. "He is very athletic, he is a natural left-sided player and it is important to have that balance in the squad."
