Brighton boss De Zerbi: AEK showed us how to go to net level

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi felt they lacked the necessary experience to cope with AEK during last night's 3-2 Europa League defeat.

De Zerbi was happy with Brighton's performance, but felt AEK handled the night better.

He said: "In terms of quality of play, we played very well. I am really proud of the performance.

"We didn't show as much experience as AEK Athens, but we played with personality and the right attitude.

"We controlled the game, we dominated. We are sad about the result but we have to analyse the performance, which was good.

"We can improve but it's difficult to accept this defeat," says De Zerbi. "I can't be happy when we win at Old Trafford and sad today with a good performance.

"We knew before the game that AEK had two situations in which they could score a goal: set-pieces and counterattacks.

"When we defend set-pieces against these teams, we have to be more focused, with the right attitude and smart defending. Sometimes we didn't do that.

"I am really happy with the performance," says De Zerbi. "If we want to make another upgrade, we have to know, before the game, the situations in which we can concede goals."
