Brentford push ahead with pursuit of Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres

Brentford are pushing ahead with their pursuit of Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres.

The Bees are even more acutely aware of their need to sign a centre-forward in the summer.

Star striker Ivan Toney will be absent until January, given he is banned by the Football Association for betting violations.

The 27-year-old has an eight month ban, with talkSPORT suggesting that Gyokeres is the man Brentford want to lead the line until Toney returns.

The issue is that the Swedish forward is in the prime of his career at 24 years old and will want regular football.

He may wonder if his first team place will be secure when Toney returns from his ban in the middle of the season.
