Brentford defender Mathias Zanka: I never considered Copenhagen return

Brentford defender Mathias Zanka admits some regret over his time with FC Copenhagen.

Zanka joined the Bees earlier this season in a free transfer.

"Overall, it was just disappointing. It was disappointing for me, for the club and not least for the fans," Zanka told BT of Copenhagen's poor last season.

After the season, 31-year-old Zanka had his contract with Fenerbahce terminated and was thus free to find a new club, but he says that FCK was not in the picture at all.

This is primarily due to Zanka's personal desire to continue outside the country's borders.

"There was no specific reason. My focus was to stay abroad. It has always been so. It was also a last minute solution when I moved back to FCK. It was something I had talked a lot with Ståle Solbakken about."
