Brentford defender Jansson: Leeds boss Bielsa liked me as a player - not as a person

Brentford defender Pontus Jansson admits Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa didn't fancy him.

Jansson, 30, spent three seasons at Leeds. But in the summer of 2019, he was sold to Brentford.

He called to Fotbollskanalen : "I had that feeling all that year with Bielsa. I first arrived late after the World Cup, last of all. It was not that I demanded it, but I asked for a vacation, because I know how important rest and recovery is in football.

"I asked for an extra week after the World Cup. But I feel that it went wrong now when I look back on it in retrospect. He did not like it at all.

"Then I had a pretty tough start in the first matches, I was not allowed to play, for understandable reasons, as I came in late and had barely gotten into his way of playing. Then I was a bit lucky with injuries, started playing and played at a high level throughout the season. He himself mentioned that I was the best player of the season. He liked me incredibly much as a football player, but he had a hard time with me as a person."
