Brentford boss Frank: How I convinced Arsenal, Newcastle target Toney to make move

Brentford boss Thomas Frank is delighted with the response of Ivan Toney this season.

Frank admits he pushed hard to convince Toney to join them from Peterborough United last year. His form this term has Toney being linked with the likes of Arsenal and former club Newcastle United.

Frank told bold.dk: "First we had a meeting with him, the father and the agent, where they were very blown away over the level of detail in our preparations in relation to how we saw him, how he fit in and the plan for him.

"We are often told that people are blown backwards when we come, but that is not all we offer, among other things, because of the economy.

"Ivan was really interested, but eventually some other clubs came on the field, which made Toney and his camp pull back a bit.

"At a crucial time I then called him again and I ran the big sweet talk and it luckily helped. I do not think he has regretted it, let me put it this way.

"I called him and said: 'You have to play for me. I can guarantee you that if you play for me and our team, you will score 25 goals. I've done that with two attackers now. I know what principles we do it from and I can see you have what it take.

"'You dream of the Premier League, so why not do it after a great season of promotion with a team where you know that if you do well, you will play in the Premier League'."
