Brazil confirm Real Madrid blocking Vinicius Junior from U20 South American championships

Real Madrid have insisted Vinicius Junior must not play for Brazil at the U20 South American championships.

Sport says Real Madrid have blocked Vinicius from appearing for Brazil in the South American U20 Championship. It's a competition which takes place in Chile and will begin on the 17th January and run until the 10th February. However Real Madrid don't want to release the forward and have already told the CBF of their intentions.

It's a competition which isn't included in FIFA's calendar of events and as such, Real Madrid are free to block Vinicius from playing in it. Whilst the player is reportedly keen to represent his country, Madrid have let him - and the Brazilian FA - know he won't be leaving Spain.

"It's confirmed that Vinicius won't go to the South American Championship. Their position is very clear. He wants to be here, with the national team all the time, but they won't allow him to," said Brazil coach Carlos Amadeu.
