Bournemouth veteran Cook: I played through pain during season

Bournemouth veteran Steve Cook admits that he played through the pain barrier near the end of the season.

The central defender had an abscess in his groin, which caused him to spend six nights in a hospital.

But there were still several games of the season remaining, which Cook did not want to miss.

Despite being told by doctors his season was over, he pushed through the pain barrier to perform.

Cook told the Daily Echo: "I have been playing with pain for the past five games.

"I did get told my season was over, so to have squeezed those games in was nice but it has been through a lot of painkillers and a lot of managing myself.

"I need to regroup, strengthen, stay fit, enjoy some time off and be ready for next season."
