Bournemouth midfielder Surman considers South Africa international option

Bournemouth star Andrew Surman has admitted that he is contemplating the option of turning out for the South African national team.

Despite featuring for the England Under-21 national team, Surman has never managed to earn a cap for the Three Lions' senior squad and it looks unlikely that the 30-year-old will be getting that coveted call from England anytime soon.

Surman's hopes of playing international football is not over as of yet though as he is eligible to turn out for the South African national team, having been born in Johannesburg, and the midfielder has now admitted that he will consider playing for Bafana Bafana if presented with an opportunity to do so.

He told the Daily Echo: "I have never ruled out playing for South Africa but my priority has always been my club football.

"The past two or three years have been hugely important for me.

"If I had gone to play international football things might not have worked out the same way.

"I was really honoured to be called up and it certainly was not something I turned up my nose at. I really, seriously, considered it."
