Bournemouth midfielder Andrew Surman is facing more time on the sidelines.
Surman, 33, has been restricted to five appearances for Cherries in all competitions this season, with two starts coming in the Carabao Cup.
Giving an update on the former Wolves and Norwich ace, Howe said: “It was more of a build-up injury. It was more one that was there and was just nagging away at him.
“He has been advised to rest it for a couple of weeks. We hope that will fix the problem.
“He's a big player and obviously we want him back as quickly as possible."
