The Cherries were beaten 3-1 at Old Trafford in their final Premier League fixture of the season with the home side dominating possession.
Goals from Wayne Rooney, Marcus Rashford and Ashley Young had Bournemouth on the ropes before a late consolation goal in the form of a deflection off United defender Chris Smalling ended the season on somewhat of a positive note for the south coast club.
"It was a difficult game, they frustrated us, and it was a game of few chances and they took theirs. The second goal killed it," Howe told Sky Sports.
"They had too much possession, too much quality.
"When we did have it we turned it over too quickly. It was a difficult night for both teams after Sunday, but credit to both teams I thought they gave it their all."
