Borussia Dortmund midfielder midfielder Emre Can has sympathy for his former Liverpool teammates as they wait to find out if they'll be given the chance to complete their Premier League title quest.

Reds players and staff have been left wondering when they will be able to finish off a league season which has seen them amass a remarkable 27 wins from 29 games to move to the cusp of the club's first league title since 1990.

"The situation is extremely unfortunate and bitterly straight," Can told Bild.

"Of course the championship would be deserved if the season were to be abandoned now, but the team could not celebrate with the fans who are so longing for the title.

"I hope that the celebration would happen later in that case."
