Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre is adamant Jadon Sancho is staying for the new season.

Sources in England and Norway are insistent Manchester United remain in hot pursuit of a deal for the England international.

However, Dortmund's €100m-plus asking price is proving a stumbling block. United are eager to get a deal done, but not at Dortmund's valuation. And Favre admits there's now a confidence inside the club that Sancho will be staying for the new season.

Favre told Keystone-SDA via Fussball Transfers: “We need him, no question about it. Everyone is happy that he stayed.

"We don't need to talk long about his qualities - they are enormous.

"He shoots and creates a lot of goals, and can often make the difference. But there are some details that Sancho needs to improve.

"That is quite normal for a 20-year-old."

Sancho, 20, has been with Dortmund since 2017, signing from Manchester City. With the Yellow-and-Blacks, the winger has amassed 99 appearances for 34 goals and 43 assists.

Meanwhile, Favre admits he's also excited to be working with England youth international Jude Bellingham.

The midfielder left Birmingham City last month to sign for BVB. Bellingham, 17, was signed by Dortmund in July and has penned a contract to 2023.

Favre continued: “First of all, I am interested in one thing: the game intelligence. I don't look at the date of birth of someone like Bellingham. He has the technical skills, he feels the space. That's why it is easy for me to work with such talent.

“Of course I'm looking forward to a player like him. I got to know him better during the preseason. I like how he handles the ball and how he can defend it. Jude has many tactical capabilities and an amazing presence.

"He can play as a six or eight, plays good passes, seeks the goal. Various systems are possible with him. It's all very, very interesting."
