Newcastle United will try to sign Bordeaux striker Diego Rolan in case they fail to land Charlie Austin, their primary target, reports The Express.

The 22-year-old striker has scored 17 league goals in 61 appearances for the French club and is a Uruguay international.

Newcastle have been trying to negotiate a deal for QPR star Austin for quite some time now but the two clubs are still far apart on the valuation of the player, which may force the Magpies to make a bid for Rolan.
