Ivan Klasnic has cancelled his contract with Nantes.
Bolton Wanderers boss Owen Coyle is keen to bring the 30-year-old striker back to the Reebok Stadium after Klasnic impressed on loan last season.
The Croatian scored eight goals in the Premier League and talks had taken place regarding another season-long loan arrangement.
However, Coyle had admitted that Klasnic's reported £60,000-a-week wages at Nantes were proving to be a stumbling block in the deal.
That issue has now been resolved after Nantes confirmed that, following talks with Klasnic, the forward's contract had been terminated.
Klasnic, who joined Nantes from Werder Bremen in 2008, is now expected to hold discussions regarding a potential return to the Premier League.
